IT is unusual for a person to steal from a court but a man from Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park suburb sneaked into a court office and stole cash and a cellphone.
Tatenda Welcome Moyo (19) summoned courage and got into Primrose Mutopa (29)’s office where he allegedly stole US$320, $100, and two cellphones — a Huawei P5 and a Samsung tablet 10.1.
It is stated that Primrose spotted Tatenda getting out of her office with the loot and she screamed for help.
Seeing that he was running out of luck Tatenda took to his heels leaving people who were in the corridors, to attend court cases, in awe. Mutopa allegedly gave chase but she was outpaced.
It is reported that when he was about to descend the stairs a prosecutor who had heard the screams chased after him and caught him.
Tatenda was arrested and taken to Bulawayo Police Station.
He appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Tinashe Tashaya facing theft charges.
He pleaded guilty.
He took to the stand: “ Your worship, I’m an orphan, so I had to steal because I was hungry and I wanted money to buy food and clothes because the ones that I have are now in tatters.”
He was remanded in custody to Monday for sentencing.
