adminIn an interview, Minister Moyo said corruption had stunted growth of African economies and must be combated. He said corruption practices spanned a wide spectrum ranging from petty bribes before normal bureaucratic procedures are accomplished to large scale bribes that involve huge amounts of money in return for preferential treatment or access.
“Corruption has become the cancer in our economy and African economies as a whole, eating away all the development chances resulting in poverty.
“In Zimbabwe people developed a culture of corruption during the times of dislocated economic era and that culture has carried on up to now hindering growth,” he said.
He said corruption was now recognised as a global phenomenon which had to be addressed coherently and consistently.
“If our economy is to achieve a growth rate that is necessary to reduce poverty and improve well being of populations, we must remove corruption.
“There is a huge link between corruption and development.”
He said corruption was taking place in both the private and public sectors.
Minister Moyo said Zimbabweans must do away with illegal activities when conducting their commercial and social activities to allow the economy to recover.
“People must practise ethical business practices that promote expansion and improvement of the economy,” he said.
