A BRUTAL machete attack left a 40-year-old man nursing serious injuries in Chipinge, with two accused individuals facing assault charges.
Takura Chinoda (45) and Felix Ngayi Mutisi (42), allegedly struck Edmore Nyabanga (40) with a machete once on the forehead and three times on the back, accusing him of having an affair with Chinoda’s girlfriend.
Acting Manicaland provincial police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Wiseman Chinyoka confirmed the incident, and said the complainant sustained deep cuts, and his condition is serious.
“The incident happened on January 25, at around 8pm at Douglas Farm compound in Chipinge.
“Edmore Nyabanga, the victim, was allegedly attacked by Takura Chinoda and Felix Ngayi Mutisi over a love affair.
“On that same day, Chinoda and Ngayi went to the complainant’s house, armed with a machete, and struck Nyabanga once on the forehead and three times on the back.
Mutisi grabbed the machete from Takura and hit Nyabanga once on the back, causing him to fall on the ground.
“Nyabanga managed to regain control of the machete and the two accused fled from the scene.
“The victim sustained several injuries, including three deep cuts on the back and one on the forehead. The complainant’s wife, Desire Mhandu returned home to find her husband writhing in pain,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
Mhandu immediately alerted their neighbour, Lucky Makuyana, and together they reported the incident to ZRP Chipinge Urban.
Police attended the scene, and Mutisi was arrested, while Nyabanga was rushed to Chipinge District Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment for the serious injuries sustained during the attack.
“The machete used in the attack was recovered by the police, and investigations are ongoing,” said Assistant Inspector Chinyoka.
