The Prince Edward’s Jubilee fields played host to most “power houses” who had their first matches in front of an amazing crowd.
Director of the event, Sebastian Garikai was optimistic about the turnout saying that people and schools are likely to come during “power houses” fixtures which are drawn and slated for Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.
“It is appearing that this year we are going to see more people and schools coming to witness the second best sport in the land. We have seen more rugby playing schools, both girls and boys, coming onboard and gave the event a remarkable 15th anniversary.
“Teams that played today set up a very good pace and we would want to see that type of play throughout the competition. They played very good rugby although visiting teams took the center stage, said Garikai.
Petra boys marked their return to tournament by falling heavily to visiting Windhoek Technical team leaving the coaches and some of the players looking for possible answers to what could have been their biggest mistake losing 03-52. Petra could not handle stopping brilliant Windhoek Technical side from scoring five tries before halftime.
Girls teams that played yesterday did not disappoint as some of the teams were making their debut appearances at the event which has been running for fifteen years. More games to look forward to will be the host and one of the “power house” Prince Edward School who will lock horns with
South African St Martins side who thumped Gifford today.
