supposed to pay farmers adjustments after grading it.
Instead of paying price adjustments, cotton merchants complained of the continuous decline in producer prices on the world market.
Most cotton growers said they will withhold their crop until merchants honour their promises.
Zimbabwe Farmers Union director Mr Paul Zakariya said many farmers were contemplating side marketing their cotton to recover costs.
“Ginners pointed out that last season they could not pay farmers adjustments as the prices of cotton lint continued to fall on the international market,” said Mr Zakariya.
“However, it is difficult to understand that the ginners do not have the capacity to pay farmers for grade adjustments because they have not declared their returns.”
Mr Zakariya said ginners should report back to farmers after buying their crop.
