Spanish ambassador dies in road accident

“The Spanish Embassy wishes to inform you of the tragic passing away of H.E Pilar Fuertes Ferragut, the Ambassador of Spain to Zimbabwe, Zambia and Malawi who died in a car accident yesterday afternoon,” reads a statement from the Spanish embassy in Zimbabwe. The embassy said a condolence book has been opened at the embassy while all cultural activities have been cancelled.

“A Book of Condolences is open from today (yesterday) until Thursday this week and Tuesday April 10th from 8 am to 4 pm at the embassy. Due to the sudden and tragic passing away of H.E Pilar Fuertes Ferragut, Ambassador of Spain, please be advised that all cultural activities of the Embassy of Spain have been cancelled until further notice,” added the statement.

Yesterday Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai signed the condolence book at the embassy. The ambassador was accredited to Zimbabwe in March 2009.
