The Harare City Council on Monday deployed a team made up of Zimbabwe Republic Police traffic officers and its own police in a targeted operation aimed at restoring order in the capital’s central business district (CBD).
The blitz comes after reports of kombis now using first street mall to evade arrest and also dropping off passengers.
The early morning blitz, which swept through key points including Market Square and major bus termini, is part of what council officials described as a sustained enforcement exercise to reclaim public spaces and enforce compliance with municipal by-laws.
Confirming the operation, Harare City Council Chamber Secretary Advocate Warren Chiwawa, said the joint deployment was routine but intensified effort to prioritise public safety and restore normalcy in the city centre.
“We are targeting hotspots. It is true that we regularly embark on joint enforcement exercises between Harare Traffic and Harare Municipal Police so that we ensure that public safety is prioritised,” he said.
