COUNCIL OFFICIALS BASHED WHILE TRYING TO STOP MAN VANDALISING GRAVES

TWO Harare City Council officials were bashed with a hammer and left for dead after they tried to stop a man who was vandalising graves at Warren Hills cemetery.

Panashe Nyawasha is facing attempted murder charges and allegations of violating graves.

Nyawasha was not asked to plead when he appeared before Harare magistrate Donald Ndirowei and was remanded in custody to August 4 for bail ruling.Prosecutors alleged that on Tuesday, Nyawasha was spotted destroying some graves at Warren Hills cemetery with a hammer.

He was confronted by the Council security personnel at the cemetery.

He then used his hammer to attack them.

Saidi Anati sustained a broken leg during the assault while Tinotenda Kadzomba was hit on the forehead and right hand.

The damaged graves are valued at US$1500. Rufaro Chonzi appeared for the State.
