THE entire fleet of vehicles and furniture for the cash-strapped Masvingo City Council will be auctioned next week to recover more than $3,5 million it owes its workers in outstanding salaries.
More than 100 vehicles and office furniture will go under the hammer on Friday after council failed to pay the workers a salary increase they were awarded in 2008.
The auctioning of the property follows the dismissal of the local authority’s appeal by the High Court against the sale of the attached property.
The property to be auctioned includes the mayor’s official Mercedes Benz, graders, tippers, refuse collection trucks, among other movable property.
Council was in 2011 ordered to pay $3,5 million in outstanding salaries and since then has been engaged in legal battles with the workers.
