THE Zimbabwe Handball Federation held their annual general meeting in Kariba last Tuesday at which they were supposed to hold elections but failed to do so after the treasurer’s report was not tabled.
Harare, Matabeleland South and Matabeleland North provinces were not represented hence it was felt the meeting was not properly constituted to proceed with elections.
However, the meeting drew the ire of delegates who had come in anticipation of the vote especially those who had canvassed to change the federation’s leadership ahead of the AGM.
Sources within the federation said the meeting almost degenerated into chaos as delegates accused the Amon Madzvamuse-led executive of creating scenarios in order to delay elections.
“People who wanted to contest accused the executive of using a deliberate ploy to delay elections so that they continue in office until after the African Games.
“The group that wanted elections however lost as some provinces were not represented and the financial report was not tabled,” said a member of the ZHF executive who did not want to be named.
Madzvamuse confirmed that elections were not held but said there were no sinister motives for the postponement.
He said: “It is true that the elections were postponed because the financial report by the treasurer could not be presented.
Our treasurer, Johnson Shumbanhete joined the organisation late last year and his financial statement only covered six months yet it should have covered the whole year. It was therefore prudent to have a full financial report.
“Another reason for the postponement was that some provinces were not represented. Elections can only take place when all provinces are represented and Matabeleland North and South provinces as well as Harare did not have representatives because structures that were put in place did not have the blessings of the Sport and Recreation Commission.”
He said they were expecting the financial report to be ready in the next two weeks.
