A MABUTHWENI councillor was yesterday granted a peace order against leaders of the Bulawayo Progressive Residents Association for insulting, issuing death threats and disturbing his ward meetings.
Clr Lot Siziba of Ward 13, told magistrate Tancy Dube that Alick Gumede and Elizabeth Mabhena always disturb meetings he holds with residents.
He said Gumede always threatens to kill him and he is living in fear because of the threats. “Whenever I call meetings, Gumede comes and disturbs the meetings. I’m asking for them not to come near me. I’m the area’s councillor and he’s telling people not to pay rentals. He threatened to axe me and he sends some agents to come and disturb my meetings. Mabhena insults me over the radio,” said Siziba.
Magistrate Dube granted Siziba a peace order and told Gumede and Mabhena not to go near his meetings or send agents to disturb him.
They were also ordered to keep peace towards him and not to insult him in any way. Gumede and Mabhena had opposed the peace order application claiming that they never interfered or disturbed any of his meetings as they had no reason to do so.
“I’ve never been to any of his meetings and I’ve never disturbed his meetings,” said Gumede.
Mabhena also denied disturbing Clr Siziba’s meetings.
“I’m surprised that he’s lying to this court. He’s the one who went to Radio Dialogue. He called a meeting and said I squandered burial funds and he never came to ask me about it. He’s fixing me for refusing to sleep with him,” said Mabhena
