A HARARE man is at loggerheads with his wife after demanding that she should give birth to, at least, 10 children.

Denis Muchiri told a court that children are an investment into his future.

Denis is married to Florence and the couple has two children.

Florence told the Harare Civil Court that Denis was abusing her and was even tampering with her contraceptives.

“He has been urging me to get pregnant and whenever I refuse, he assaults me.

“We have two children already and he is demanding that I should bless him with eight more children and that I should stop wasting time.

“He has been abusing me physically over the issue and, at some point, he broke my leg after a heated argument.

“I tried to reason with him but he is not taking no for an answer, his relatives have also turned their backs on me because they share the same sentiments.

“He has even tampered with my birth control pills and I ended up being pregnant but I lost the child through a miscarriage.”

Denis said he just wanted to have more children. The reason I got into a marriage with her was to have as many children as I can because I know having many of them is like an investment.

“I want 10 children or more and she should just give birth and let me worry about the children’s welfare.

“She is my wife and she should respect my wishes as the father of the house,” he said.

Magistrate Judith Taruvinga granted a protection order in Florence’s favour and told the couple to resolve their differences.
