A POLICE officer lost his car, cash and uniform to two men who had hired him to take them to Mhondoro.
The two suspects — Luckmore Tasaruka and Tatenda Saidi — appeared before Harare magistrate Fadzai Mthombeni over the weekend.
The court heard that on July 26, the duo hired the cop, Daniel Chakawa, to take them to Mindoro using his Toyota Raum.
They drove along the Harare/Bulawayo highway and when they reached the Mhondoro turn off, the duo stopped Chakawa pretending as if they wanted to relieve themselves.
The two then used a rope to tie Chakawa and placed a cloth in his mouth.
The pair then took control of the car, stole a wallet, which had US$68, his driver’s licence and national identity card.
The stolen motor vehicle contained Chakawa’s police uniform.
The two later dumped Chakawa and sold the car.
Vimbiso Rundare prosecuted.
