A Crowborough North couple is seeking assistance for their six-month-old son to undergo surgery for hydrocephalus.
Ryan Lemekani suffers from a condition that causes swelling of the head as fluid builds up in the ventricles within the brain.
Ryan’s father, Francis Lemekani, said the swelling started a few months after he was born.
“Ryan was born prematurely and he stayed in hospital for two months before being discharged. We did not notice anything amiss when he was born, but after a few months, we noticed that his head was swelling and growing bigger than his body,” he said.
Francis said doctors told him that his son needed surgery to drain the fluid, and it cost US$8 450.
“I can’t raise the required amount. My worst fear is losing my child. It hurts to see him in this situation knowing that there is nothing I can do ease his pain,” he said.
