A Harare woman has approached the civil court claiming US$590 maintenance for the upkeep of her three minor children.

Nyasha Matida said her husband, Norman Chireya, was an irresponsible father who neglected the needs of his children.

“I am claiming US$590 for three children aged 10, six and four. As we speak, the children are at home because they were expelled from school.

“He also told me that when we leave court, I will not be in a position to stay with him,” she said.

In response, Norman offered US$100.

“I will give her US$100, pay school fees and rentals as usual. On the issue of rentals, I will hear from her since she is saying she wants to move out,” he said.

Magistrate Ayanda Dhlamini granted the order and awarded Nyasha US$150.

She also ruled that Norman should pay school fees and buy uniforms twice a year.
