More students will return to school on Monday with parents and guardians doing last minutes shopping for masks and sanitisers.
A visit to a number of shops selling masks, face shields and sanitizers revealed that parents were going the extra mile to ensure safety of their children when they return for classes.
One parent Mrs Getty Moyo said her Grade 4 daughter prefers disposable masks.
“I bought four boxes and I hope they will last. I am also encouraging her to use a reusable mask, which is more economic but she said she prefers the disposable ones,” said Mrs Moyo.
She also bought a couple of bottles of sanitizers, which her daughter will keep in her bag for use at school.
Other parents who spoke to the Herald, especially those with younger children, said they have been teaching them safety while at home.
Mrs Gamuchirai Bungu of Kuwadzana said she fears her son will lose his mask and bought a face shield.
“My son is notorious for losing everything from socks to hats to anything. I have been teaching him how to secure his mask when he is not wearing it. I hope he will not lose the masks at school. I also bought a face shield for backup,” she said.
Mr Mathias Gudo of Dzivarasekwa said he has been teaching his children to wash their hands consistently when they return to school.
“I will put small tablets of soap in their back packs and they can always wash their hands when they want. I have three children in primary school and want to ensure they are safe when at school,” he said.
