Covid-19 recovery rate at 97%

THE Covid-19 recovery rate in the country is at an all-time high at 97 percent since the start of the year, rising from 73 percent in December.

On January 1 this year, the recovery rate was at 85 percent and it has remained at 97 since the beginning of this month.

Zimbabwe and other countries worldwide have been battling the Covid-19 pandemic since its outbreak in 2020.

Earlier this week, Botswana announced that it had detected a new Omicron variant and a local health expert, Bulawayo Provincial Medical Director Dr Maphios Siamuchembu said there are now fears the virus could soon spread to Zimbabwe.

As of Tuesday, Zimbabwe had recorded 247 094 Covid-19 cases, including 240 584 recoveries and 5 460 deaths.

A total of 5 749 905 people have been vaccinated against Covid-19.

In his post Cabinet briefing yesterday, ICT, Postal and Courier Services Minister, Dr Jenfan Muswere advised members of the public to remain vigilant as the country enters winter and readies for Easter and Independence Day celebrations.

Minister Muswere also said the number of people that are being hospitalised due to Covid-19 in the country has gone down.

“Regarding case management, infection prevention and control, the number of people in need of hospitalisation for Covid-19 decreased, with the country’s bed occupancy rate receding from 1,5 percent during last week to 0,9 percent this week.

“The nation is also being advised to remain vigilant as winter is fast approaching and the country readies for the Easter and Independence Day holidays.

Accordingly, all citizens are urged to continue adhering to the laid down World Health Organisation Covid-19 health protocols at all times.”
