The national Covid-19 response continues to improve the country’s quality of health care and people will benefit beyond the pandemic.

This was said by provincial medical director for Mashonaland East Province Dr Paul Matsvimbo following President Mnangagwa’s declaration of the pandemic as a state of disaster.

The declaration has led to improved Government resource allocation for the health sector as well as marshalling the private sector to come on board and help to boost health care delivery.

Dr Matsvimbo said the funds received from central Government were used not only to equip hospitals, but also to construct new infrastructure and improvement of existing facilities.

“We have received funding for the Covid-19 response which among other things, were used for infrastructural developments.

“At our provincial offices, we are building a new warehouse which is almost complete. We have enough funds for the completion of the structure and now, it is the speed of the contractors which will determine when it will be completed.

“We hope to start using it in October,” said Dr Matsvimbo.

He also tabled a report on the routine childhood immunisation campaign supported by partners including GAVI through UNICEF.

Mahusekwa District Hospital is also constructing housing units for medical personnel.
