IT was chaos in Cowdray Park when cops crashed a wild Vuzu party in the dead of night, arresting 13 youths caught red-handed indulging in alcohol, drugs, and what insiders call “unprotected sex orgies.”
The steamy house party, hosted by 21-year-old Thabiso Sibanda at house number 5580, was stormed just after midnight on 24 May 2025, after police on patrol heard loud music and shouting.
“We proceeded to the house and arrested 13 individuals who were attending the Vuzu party,” confirmed Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the police spokesperson for Bulawayo.
Among the arrested were teens and young adults between 17 and 21, including:
• Ryan Jena (18)
• Kingstone Mufunda (17)
• Mbongeni Shoniwa (17)
• Melissa Ncube (18)
• Princess Khumalo (18) from Emganwini
…and others from Pumula South and Nkulumane 5.
The party took place in a seven-roomed, gated house with a durawall, with no parental supervision. “The host lives with his sister while the parents are in Botswana,” said Insp Msebele.
Vuzu parties are notorious in Bulawayo for their raunchy and reckless nature, where youngsters engage in drug use, heavy drinking, and often unprotected group sex. Videos from previous parties have shocked the nation, with teens seen passed out or engaging in wild acts.
Police are deeply concerned. “We urge parents to monitor their children’s activities,” warned Msebele. “These parties are not just a threat to moral behaviour but are breeding grounds for substance abuse and risky sexual behaviour.”
Residents in Cowdray Park were left shaken by the revelations. “These kids are playing with fire,” said one neighbour. “We never imagined such a thing was happening behind closed doors in our street!”
The 13 have since been charged, and investigations are ongoing.
