FOUR goals, two in either half, could not separate Cranborne Bullets and Tenax as they shared the spoils in this evenly balanced Chibuku Super Cup Group Three, Match Three played at Sakubva Stadium this afternoon.
Defensive lapses by both sides characterised this battle of the debutants, with Tenax racing into the lead twice and their opponents rallying back to draw level.
In the end, Tenax coach Shadreck “Father” Mugurasave and his Cranborne Bullets counterpart Nisbert “Yabo” Saruchera both felt let down by their respective rearguards.
“It was good we scored, but bad that we failed to protect our lead on two occasions. As for the goals we conceded, I am very disappointed with the defenders because they should have cleared those balls.
“However, I am happy with the result. This was a fair outcome as both teams created good chances that could have won them the game. The point we earned is good for us,” said Mugurasave.
Saruchera concurred.
“We conceded some silly goals and that upsets me. Remember I was a defender myself and I know my boys should have done better in those situations. On the other hand, we did well to have come from two goals down and force a draw. We will continue working hard and hope to make it to the next round because the group is tight as it stands,” he said.
Forceful forward Malvern Dumbura had a good day in office for Chauya Chikara as he struck and provided an assist for Lancelot Chakuwamba.
The Hurricanes got their goals through Everson Feremba from the penalty spot and Malvern Hwata.
With the group games now at the halfway stage, all four teams remain in contention to finish as the top two and progress to the quarter-finals.
Bullets top the standings on five points, while Black Rhinos and Tenax are tied on four points apiece. Manica Diamonds (three) anchor the mini-log in what is turning out to be a closely contested group.
