According to reports, Taylor batted with poise and balance and mixed aggression with a sound technique to score 101 from 58 deliveries and help his side reach 170 for three.
But the impressive batting performance from Otago meant the Zimbabwe captain’s century went in vain.
He also shared in an unbeaten stand of 124 for the fourth wicket with Wellington captain Grant Elliott (49 not out). Taylor and Elliott then blazed 124 off 68 balls, with Taylor’s second 50 coming off just 17 deliveries.
Wellington were hampered by a sluggish start: their openers failed to get going, then James Franklin hung around for 20 balls to score just 10, and when he was dismissed Wellington were 46 for 3 in 8.4 overs.
