THE Zimbabwe cricket team arrived here yesterday ahead of their four-day training session in the Lowveld. They will play practice match against a select team starting today in preparation for their tour of Bangladesh.
The game will be played at Triangle Country Club.
Zimbabwe Test captain Brendan Taylor said he was impressed with the facilities in this town.
“We came here because we think the conditions will replicate those of Bangladesh. We all know that there is dry heat here as compared to Bangladesh where it’s more humid.
“The most important thing is that we are here as a team and preparing as a team on a turning wicket that definitely favours spin bowlers”, said Taylor.
Zimbabwe’s preparation however has been overshadowed by the suspension of off-spinner Prosper Utseya.
“It’s unfortunate that Prosper has been banned but we are fully behind him and we are here with him because he is a senior team player who will definitely be of great value to the team and young players,” said Taylor.
Triangle Cricket Club Chairman Jeremy Richards said the wicket would provide the turn needed by the team.
“We usually use the wicket in One Day matches and now it will be used for a four-day match but the preparations were great and we are ready for the event.
“We don’t often get a chance to have the national team here in Triangle so I urge fans to come in their numbers and cheer the guys up as they prepare to go represent the nation in Bangladesh where they will play three Test matches and five ODIs,” said Richards.
