Crispen Muza gets squash scholarship

KFM Consultancy and their subsidiary, Tugwi Holdings, offered the 16-year-old Zimbabwe Squash Academy player a lifeline to cater for his fees and to sponsor him in all the local national tournaments.
Muza, who is an orphan and will be an ‘O’ Level pupil at Mount Pleasant High School in Harare this year, received a new set of school uniform, exercise books and will have his school fees paid in full.

The fifth-ranked player at the Zimbabwe Squash Academy could not hide his excitement as he received his scholarship yesterday.
“I am very happy for the gesture and I promise to take my academics seriously. I am grateful for all the people who came on board to help me as I was finding it difficult to travel to my previous school in Hatcliffe.
“The coming on board of these corporates has helped not only me but my sister who was looking after me and I say thank you to my sponsors.

“I will repay the faith invested in me by trying my best both academically and in sport.
“I hope to become one of the best squash players in this country and with such a help I think I will get there,” Muza said.
Chairman of Tugwi Trust, Kudzai Midzi, was also happy with what his firm had done for the underprivileged boy and called on other companies to follow suit.

“We are happy that we managed to help Muza whom we think has potential both academically and in sport.
“We have been working with a lot of kids, mainly in Masvingo, so we have decided to spread our wings.
“We have managed to stage some exchange visits where we would bring kids from rural areas to visit the urban areas and also do the opposite.

“Venturing into squash for us was motivated by the lack of support in the sport and we are hopeful that more corporates will emulate what we have done.
“We used to sponsor a soccer tournament and we have decided to venture into other sporting disciplines and help the disadvantaged (children).
“We have pledged to help Muza with his school fees until he is done with his school up to the level he wants to attain.

“We will also help the young boy with all the support for transport to take part in every national tournament he feels like participating in and we will also give him a new squash kit.
“I am quite sure that our relationship will be good and will help him in the long run,” Midzi said.

Chairman of Premier Belgravia Sports Club, Petros Kagwere, said the coming on board of Tugwi Holdings was a giant step in promoting the sport.
“We are happy for our member who has managed to get a scholarship from the company and we feel we need more people with the same spirit.
“Tugwi Holdings has set up a good forum for us and we are grateful to them for helping this disadvantaged boy.

“Muza has a long history with this club as his parents used to work here before they passed away and we had just managed to give their eldest daughter a job and accommodation at our club but the boy was learning far away from his place of residence.
“It will be good for people to join hands and promote sport as there are many vulnerable kids with potential and talent in different sporting disciplines.

‘Sport will generally bring discipline to the young kids as they will have something to occupy them,” Kagwere said.
