Crystal Palace seal Benteke deal

LONDON. — Crystal Palace have sealed a £32m deal for Christian Benteke in a transfer that should give Liverpool their money back for the striker. Palace tabled an improved offer on Thursday for Benteke which guarantees Liverpool will receive £27m, plus a further £5m in realistic add-ons. Liverpool paid Aston Villa £32.5m for the Belgium international last summer.Benteke on Thursday night travelled to London ahead of a medical and will finalise personal terms with the player’s camp having been seeking wages of £120 000-a-week.

The breakthrough in negotiations ends a complicated process which has dragged throughout the summer.

Liverpool rejected an offer of £23.5m, plus £7m in add-ons which were partly dependent on Palace qualifying for the Champions League, on Tuesday.

However, it has emerged that Palace’s first formal bid for Benteke amounted to just £15m. — The Daily Express.
