Addressing farmers at the 72nd Zimbabwe Farmers’ Union Annual Congress in Bulawayo on Thursday, CSC chief executive officer Mr Ngoni Chinogaramombe said the company had received more than 13 000 applications from prospective livestock farmers but had failed to process them. He said they were hopeful next year would bring better fortunes for the company for it to start the project.
“We received 13 000 applications from farmers, but we have not processed a single one of them because we do not have funds. Our hope is that in 2013 things will be better and we can start processing the applications,” said Mr Chinogaramombe.
He, however, said the company had started another programme where farmers would take their cattle to CSC and automatically become members.
Farmers welcomed the development, saying it would empower them, as they would now be shareholders.
