“The combined monthly slaughter capacity for the four operational abattoirs using low level slaughter system is 8 400 herd and 42 000 herd using the conventional slaughter system,” said the state entity. For the whole of 2010 CSC slaughtered only 916 herd of its own cattle and 11 263 as service slaughters.”
The firm noted livestock operations were also very low with the ranches holding 637 CSC cattle and 4 946 herd for various lease holders.
“The Livestock Supply Scheme remained dormant due to lack of funding,” he said.
During the second half of 2011, Prof Ndlovu said the company entered into a cattle supply contract with the government of Botswana, which saw the firm slaughtering 26 447 herd supplied from Gaborone between July and mid October 2011.
“Following the successful implementation of the said cattle supply contract the company successfully negotiated for another two year supply contract with the Botswana Meat Commission,” said Prof Ndlovu.
The chief executive officer CSC, Mr Ngoni Chinogaramombe, said the firm had since lost its ISO Certification.
