Lovemore Zigara in Gweru
THE Zifa Central Soccer League has with immediate effect suspended ZRP Beitbridge for failing to fulfill three sanctioned fixtures.
ZRP Beitbridge withdrew from the league on August 26 after the previous executive indicated to the league management that the club could no longer raise a team following the transfer of all police officers in the border town.
However, the police outfit was readmitted when the club’s new executive wrote a letter seeking readmission into the league two weeks later.
Reads the letter of expulsion from the league; “We refer to the above matter and advise that due to your failure to fulfill three sanctioned league fixtures ZRP Beitbridge has been suspended with immediate effect.”
“Consequently, ZRP Beitbridge loses all its membership rights as defined in Zifa statutes with immediate effect.
“The club is no longer entitled to take part in any league competitions effective November 5 2016. Moreover, we remind you not to enter into any sporting contact with the CRSL and or its member clubs during the suspension of the club,” the letter reads.
The development means that the police outfit’s fixture against Whawha has been forfeited on a 3 – 0 score line and so would be the final fixture where ZRP Beitbridge was supposed to play fellow policemen ZRP Gwanda.
However, the suspension of the border town outfit is likely to torch a storm especially with the majority of clubs who queried the readmission of the side at a critical stage of the league.
While some clubs like Tongogara who benefitted from ZRP Beitbridge’s temporary withdrawal from the league after they were awarded maximum points on a 3 – 0 score line, the same cannot be said for other title contenders namely Ivan Hoe and Blanket Mine who had to play ZRP Beitbridge despite frantic protestations about its membership.
