Culture Week launch on today

THIS year’s edition of the provincial Culture Week launch rolls into life today (Friday) at Nyati Eco Game Park in Headlands, with more than 10 traditional groups expected to provide entertainment.A blend of mbira, traditional dance, drama and traditional music performances by different groups, among them Holland Muchongoyo Group from Chipinge and Musapingura, are expected to showcase their talents.

The event, which is aimed at promoting and preserving our culture as well as conscientising people about our national heritage, will start at 9am.

It will be held under the theme: “Celebrating Arts and Cultural Entrepreneurship”.

National Arts Council of Zimbabwe Manicaland provincial manager Jonah Muchayi said Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs Mandi Chimene is expected to officiate at the launch.

“We are looking forward to having a very successful launch. The preparations were done thoroughly and on Friday (today) all roads lead to Headlands for the annual event. Our province will join the rest of the world to celebrate May 21, the International World Day for Culture Diversity for Dialogue and Development,” he said.

He added that the event would also have a lot of arts activities since art and culture are central to the development of a nation.

The venue is a private wild life conservation park owned by Nyati Wildlife and Ecology Trust.

The game park is located in Headlands along Harare-Mutare Highway.
