Tourism and Hospitality Industry Minister Barbara Rwodzi is set to officially launch the Mapopoma Festival, scheduled to run from next week Friday to New Year’s Eve in Victoria Falls.
The launch of the festival’s fifth edition is slated for December 28, a day ahead of the festival activities at Baobab Primary School grounds. It will be a cocktail affair that will be attended by dignitaries including the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sports, Recreation, Arts and Culture Nicholas Moyo, Victoria Falls Mayor Clr Thuso Moyo and representatives from the arts, culture, tourism and business sectors.
Minister Rwodzi will also take the opportunity to promote the Festive Season Domestic Campaign — ZIMBHO for Matabeleland North, initiated in Binga earlier this month. The campaign, running up to January encourages locals to explore the country’s tourism destinations during the festive season, focusing on boosting the domestic market’s contribution to economic growth.
Patrick Musonza, director of the Mapopoma Festival expressed readiness for the event, highlighting a high-powered delegation’s presence.
“SEAL and Mapopoma Festival are pleased to announce that a side event on the eve of the festival will mark the official opening of this year’s edition by Tourism Minister, Barbara Rwodzi. We are prepared to enchant the general public with an unforgettable experience celebrating music, arts and culture,” said Musonza.
This year’s end of year festival boasts a diverse line-up of artistes including South Africa’s Murumba Pitch, Tebza De DJ, and locals Feli Nandi, Holy Ten, Shabach the band, Gwevedzi, Skyroot, Muffia King, DJ Ashley, DJ Cleazer, and Asante Mo.
Not just a music and arts event, Mapopoma Festival offers a dedicated space for families with children’s activities, interactive games and family-oriented performances for an inclusive experience. The event is committed to eco-conscious practices, including recycling stations and efforts to reduce its environmental footprint. – @mthabisi_mthire
