A HARARE man allegedly assaulted his former wife following a dispute over their children’s custody.
Miriam Nyamukapa applied for a protection order against her ex-husband, Paul Chidziva, over verbal and physical abuse.
She accused him of wanting to take away the children.
“He accuses me of being a prostitute in public as well as beating and insulting me in the presence of my children.
“He once took away my kid by force when I had left her with my uncle in Budiriro,” she said.
In response, Paul said Miriam was of no fixed abode and, therefore, unfit to stay with their children.
“My kids are not safe because she roams from one place to another with them.

“She has been depriving me of my right to see my children for a long time.
“I did not take the child by force, but when I went to the uncle’s place, I found her not feeling well and she cried to go with me,” said Paul.
“I took her to the doctor and Miriam was already at the police station reporting me for taking the child.
“I have never beaten her as she claims.
“The children have not been going to school.”
Magistrate Rutendo Machingura dismissed the application due to lack of physical abuse evidence.
