HERENTALS Under-20 reclaimed top spot following a 2-0 win over Karoi United in the ZIFA Northern Region Division One League at the weekend.
Jimmy Jimu’s brace settled the tie.
The Young Students went into the match a point behind then log leaders, Simba Bhora, after drawing their previous two games.
“Having gone for two games without a win, we really needed the victory to boost the morale of the players.
“It’s refreshing to win, especially at home.
“We are playing in a competitive league.
“For us, it’s not about being at the top of the log, but it’s about the development of the youngsters,” said Herentals Under-20 coach, Paul Benza.
No team has enjoyed the league’s front row seat than Herentals, so far this season.
Simba Bhora were held 1-1 by Abel Banda’s resilient Golden Valley at Rimuka to drop a point behind the Young Students.
Banda is proving to be the superman in the Northern Region since taking over from Leo Kurauzvione last month.
He is still unbeaten in the three matches that he has been in charge of Golden Valley.
Golden Eagles also settled for a 1-1 draw against Chinhoyi Stars.
The Eagles, coached by Gilbert Mushangazhike, remain four points off the mark.
Kifton Kadurira’s Ngezi Platinum Stars edged Trojan 1-0 on the road.
Struggling Harare City Cubs salvaged a goalless draw against Cuma Academy at Rimuka.
Chegutu Pirates suffered a 0-1 loss at the hands of a resurgent Pam FC.
The league’s officials also confirmed that the transfer window closed yesterday.
