A robbery suspect, who escaped from court last Friday, has been re-arrested and will now face more charges.

Luke Zinyengere (29) was on Monday arrested in connection with escaping from lawful custody and will also face armed robbery and unlawful possession of a firearm charges.

National police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed that four other individuals have also been arrested for allegedly aiding Zinyengere’s escape.

These include his younger brother, Tatenda Zinyengere (19), Kelvin Chinganga (31), Siphelile Zinyengere, and Obey Rwaendepi (28).

“Preliminary investigations by the Police revealed that Luke Zinyengere’s young brother, Tatenda Zinyengere allegedly provided the revolver pistol which was used to escape from custody and rob Tinashe Chiyamuro of his Mazda Demio vehicle,” said Commissioner Nyathi.

It is alleged that Zinyengere abandoned the stolen vehicle along Kaguvi Street in Harare before reuniting with his accomplices, who reportedly attempted to facilitate his escape to a neighbouring country.

Commissioner Nyathi warned the public against sheltering criminals.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police warns the public against harbouring criminals thereby defeating or obstructing the course of justice in the country,” he said.

He also urged members of the public to report any criminal activities.

Reports can be made via the National Complaints number or at any nearest police station.
