A 12-year marriage has collapsed after a wife allegedly stole US$800 from her husband.
The money was meant for medical treatment.
This was revealed after Teresina Rozvayi approached the Harare Civil court seeking a protection order against her husband, Innocent Magaya.
She claims her husband is chasing her away from their matrimonial home to make room for his girlfriend.
“He’s been threatening me, saying I must leave the house because he wants to bring his new lover.
“This was after we had an argument over US$800 that went missing.
“He accuses me of stealing his money calling me a goblin and a thief.
“The altercation led to a divorce, and he is now forcing me to leave our matrimonial house.
“I have nowhere to go, and l worked hard to build that house,” she said.
In response, Innocent denied the allegations and instead accused Teresina of theft.
“She stole money meant for our child’s medical bills.
“I am hurt and disappointed by her actions,” Innocent said.
“Ever since we started staying together, she was always in the habit stealing money from my wallet.
“I can no longer stay with a thief.”
Magistrate Meenal Naratom urged both parties to seek counselling to address the underlying issues threatening their marriage
“The court’s primary concern is the safety and well-being of all parties involved. However, it’s also important to address the issues that have led to this breakdown,” Naratom said.
A protection order was granted to Teresina barring Innocent from threatening and chasing her out of the house.
