The Confederation of Zimbabwe Retailers (CZR) has congratulated President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa on the successful completion of his tenure as Chairperson of the Southern African Development Community (Sadc), which he handed over to President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar.
President Mnangagwa assumed the Sadc Chairmanship last year.
In a statement, CZR president, Dr Denford Mutashu, said during his chairmanship, President Mnangagwa demonstrated exemplary regional leadership, marked by vision, diplomacy and commitment to the founding values of Sadc.
Notably, Dr Mutashu said his tenure was defined by unwavering dedication to regional peace, unity and economic development.
“CZR warmly congratulates President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa for the successful completion of his tenure as Chairperson of the Sadc and for the seamless handover of leadership to President Andry Rajoelina of Madagascar,” said Dr Mutashu.
“His active engagement in the Great Lakes region and beyond contributed significantly to fostering stability, encouraging dialogue and promoting cooperation towards sustainable peace and prosperity.
“These efforts reaffirmed Zimbabwe’s pivotal role in advancing the collective interests of the region.”
Under his stewardship, Sadc strengthened mechanisms of solidarity in responding to security threats, consolidated its commitment to regional industrialisation and amplified the pursuit of food and energy security.
President Mnangagwa’s emphasis on unity of purpose and regional integration has left an indelible mark that will continue to guide the bloc.
Dr Mutashu said domestically, His Excellency has equally demonstrated outstanding leadership, anchored on resilience and reform.
“Noteworthy progress has been registered in stabilising the local currency, thereby laying a strong foundation for business confidence, economic growth and consumer confidence,” he said.
“These achievements are a testament to his determination to align national progress with the broader vision of regional integration and sustainable development.
“As the mantle of leadership passes to Madagascar, CZR remains confident that the foundations laid by President Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa will continue to strengthen Sadc’s path towards shared prosperity, stability and inclusive growth.”
In recognition of President Mnangagwa’s leadership and remarkable service, CZR, as an organisation representing Zimbabwean businesses, said it is ready to host His Excellency at a high-level interactive dinner ceremony.
The dinner will provide a platform to celebrate his successful tenure as Sadc Chairperson, reflect on the milestones achieved under his stewardship and engage in constructive dialogue on the opportunities that lie ahead for both Zimbabwe and the wider region.
“We once again commend His Excellency for his distinguished service to the nation, the region and the continent at large.”
