former Zanu-PF Politburo member and Cabinet Minister Mr Dumiso Dabengwa in an interview with The Sunday Mail yesterday.
POSA repealed the draconian and colonial era Law and Order Maintenance Act. Mr Dabengwa said he was the mover to replace LOMA and invited the law society and members of the civic society to discuss POSA.
“Together we came out with the final document which I presented to Parliament and I sweated to get it through Parliament and then it went to the President for signing, to this date I don’t know what happened, but it never got approved,” he said.
Mr Dabengwa also revealed that he enjoyed working with President Mugabe during his term as minister and Politburo member.
He said each time he met President Mugabe, the President made it clear that he would approach him to discuss issues at hand.
“We used to sit over a number of issues for many hours,” he said.
He hailed President Mugabe for his achievements in the education and health sectors despite the challenges Zimbabwe has gone through.
Mr Dabengwa said the land was the reason people had gone to war hence the need for land reforms.
He, however, expressed reservations on the manner it was effected saying he preferred building infrastructure before people moved on to the land.
He said Zapu fancied its chances of performing well should by-elections be held any time later this year.
“My colleagues gave the confidence that we could win if we fielded candidates in the by-elections. They told me that they are ready,” he said.
