A-45-YEAR-OLD Gokwe man has been sentenced to 20 years in jail for raping his three-year- old daughter. The man, a gold panner, pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Gokwe-Kwekwe regional magistrate Mr Amos Mbobo last week.
He was convicted on overwhelming evidence.
Mr Mbobo said the child looked up to the father for protection, but the man betrayed that trust when he abused the minor.
Prosecution proved that the man raped the child sometime in December last year.
The court heard that the man found the child at home alone when he returned from a mining claim.
He summoned the child to his bedroom and raped her once.
The gold panner threatened the minor not to report the case to anyone.
The child’s grandmother noticed that the minor was having difficulties in walking and interviewed her.
The child revealed that she was raped by the father.
The matter was reported to the police leading to the man’s arrest.
A medical report produced in court proved that the child was raped.
