DALCENT FC say their aim is to win the the Harare Saturday Soccer League.
The league was won by Agents FC last year, while Dalcent finished fifth.
Tinashe Mbishi and Darlington Chipanera were the brains behind the formation of the team which saw two different companies coming together to establish the social football side.
Dalcent team manager, Felix Mufanechiya, narrated how the team came to life.
“Dalcent FC was formed at the end of November 2021. Directors of Dalsp Metal Sheeting and Century Glass and Aluminum had a passion for soccer, so they approached their workers and clients to start a football team.
“Everyone was in agreement and they bought uniforms. One of the clients suggested the name. In early 2022 we were approached by HSSL to join them and we didn’t hesitate,” he said.
“We want to win the HSSL and be more professional than last year. Last year was a learning process, and we learnt a lot.
“We started poorly, collecting just a point out of a possible 21. We then managed to defeat every team from game number 9 up to the end. We only failed to beat Agents.
“At first, we had old guards, and other teams had youngsters so we managed to get a few youngsters and mix them with our old guard and that changed everything,” he said.
Mufanechiya said social football has taught them to be tolerant of others, as it is there for socialising and keeping members fit.
“We managed to interact with a lot of people from different backgrounds. At first, we were too emotional, but now we understand that it’s only for fun. Most of our guys can testify that these games have helped them improve physically.”
