FENNY Dembo says she was very young when her legendary father Leonard died.
She has always been battling to understand the man who was behind the legacy which his father left.
However, recent events, which have cast her family into the spotlight, have helped her understand that her dad was not only very influential man but remains an incredibly popular man in the country.
Fenny, who was born on June 1, 1990, was only six when her father died on April 9, 1996.
She has followed in her father’s footsteps by venturing into music but the whole family knows that the standards which were set by their legandary father will be difficult to match.
In the past few weeks, the Dembo family have been in the spotlight and the drama culminated with businessman Wicknell Chivayo blessing them with four cars, including a brand new 2025 Toyota Fortuner, and three Toyota Aquas.
Fenny and her brothers —Tendai and Morgan — were given Aquas while their mother got the Toyota Fortuner and US$50 000 cash to start her business.Fenny and her brothers received their cars on Tuesday.
She told H-Metro: “My father passed away when I was a toddler and I never got time with him so, when I play his music, I feel connecting with him closely.
“Doing his musical covers is the other way to also bond with him. Thank you Sir Wicknell Chivayo because your donation of US$50 000, Toyota Fortuner and these three Aqua cars to us the Dembo family has promoted our brand.
“Music is what my father loved and lived for. I had been striving to understand him and the best and worst of the life he used to live.
“We host our father’s commemoration on the 9th of every April and the world is now aware that even though Leonard Dembo passed away, the Dembo clan did not die.”
Her brother Tendai said:
“Sir Wicknell’s donation of three Aqua cars to us the three children of Leonard Dembo has united us more than we were in the past.
“Hopefully, we are going to perform on his wedding day to reciprocate his generosity.
“The name Leonard Dembo and The Barura Express brand was already there but its status has been rebranded and uplifted by Sir Wicknell because once again the whole country is staring at us, wishing us well.
“I remember him once saying ’Tendai ndichakupa Benz’, but he has made the Benz into three Aqua cars, distributing that love among our siblings and I am extremely happy.”
