MERCENARIES’ men basketball team last weekend lost their pole position to Dangamvura Knights after the latter accrued more points having played more matches.
Dangamvura Knights have accumulated 21 points, leaving them to lead the log standings with a single point as Mercenaries have 20 points.
Despite thumping Dangamvura Knights 116-84, the latter accrued more points from the matches they played.
The matches were played at Mutare Boys’ High School.
Amazingly, Dangamvura Knights have for the past four weeks been in third position, but this time they played and won more matches than Mercenaries and accrued more points.
They won with 48-35 points against Sixers last Saturday and further ran over Sophists with 31-24.
Saints are on third position with 17 points followed by Sophists with 15.
Chiefs and Chikanga Hustlerz both have 14 points, but Chiefs managed to be on top since they won more matches than Hustlerz.
Other teams that played on Sunday were AU, Wolves, Sharks, Chiefs and Rusape Giants with 14, 12, 11 and eight points, respectively.
Mutare Basketball Association spokesperson, Taurai Dhliwayo, said Dangamvura Knights’ men were so amazing in last week’s matches.
“They played hard and won most of their matches. Even though Mercenaries’ men proved to be a hard nut to crack, Dangamvura Knights have shown great determination and hard work.
Their performance last week was outstanding and it was so impressing.
“There was only one ladies match last weekend, in which Dangamvura Knights ladies won with 20-0 against AU. Wolves’ ladies are still leading in the ladies’ section with 12 points followed by Sharks, Dangamvura Knights, AU and Rusape Giants, respectively,” said Dhliwayo.
He added that Gweru Unicorns team failed to make it last weekend due to transport problems.
