CHAPMAN will host the Danhiko Charity Golf Day, which is expected to attract a full field, this morning.
Godfrey Majonga, a member of the golf day organising team, said they expected to raise more funds than at last year’s event.“Individuals are expected to pay $50 per individual, while a four-member team will part with $200. The format will be a four-ball better ball.
“We are looking forward to raising $100 000 and are grateful to the corporate world for the support and we hope they will continue to do that this year again,” Majonga said.
Meanwhile, Borrowdale Brooke-based professional golfer Steven Ferreira won his first Big Easy Tour event on Wednesday.
The 24-year-old never looked back after carding a 65 before returning with a 67 for an eight-under par at the Huddle Park Golf Club in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Ferreira pocketed the R14 000 winner’s cheque.
The golfer, who hails from Zimbabwe but plays under the Portuguese flag, told the Sunshine Tour that the victory was an awesome feeling.
“It’s awesome to win. I didn’t want to think about how the other guys were doing; I just stuck to my game plan and it paid off in the end,” he said.
“I was starting to wonder if I belonged on tour,” said Ferreira. “But this win has just reassured me that I’m doing the right things and I deserve my place on tour.
“I’ve won a couple of times in Zim, the Econet Pro Challenges at Leopard Rock Golf Club and Royal Harare Golf Club, but it’s great to have a win in South Africa,” he said.
