SHOW Jumping enthusiasts were treated to some superb performances at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair Show Grounds in Bulawayo last weekend.National champion Paula Dankin was outstanding as she managed to scoop three category prizes.
Dankin won the 100cm junior/adult two phase, welcome stakes and single accumulator. She was riding Cascadeur. Youngsters such as Misty Lee McAlister had good jumps with her horse Vrosnky as she won 80/90cm single accumulator and children two phase.
Sommer Ann McAlister won the 70cm children single accumulator and came third in 70cm children’s championships and children’s phase two, she was riding Happy Day.
Bulawayo promising young rider Tshepo Ngwenya with his horse Pipers Dream scooped the 80/90 cm welcome stakes category.
Pre-tournament favourite Mkhululi Mkandla came third on two occasions, in the 110 cm championships he failed to clear the last jump after recording the fastest time.
The event attracted over 100 participants in various categories. Fifty five participants drawn from Harare and 30 from Bulawayo took part in the three categories – children, juniors and adults.
Matabeleland Horses Association chairperson Kerry Watson expressed satisfaction with the attendance of the local riders at the national championships.
“Compared to last year where only two local riders attended the national championships, the attendance of the local guys was good this time, I’m happy. We would like to thank all our sponsors, without their continued support we would not be able to host a show of this size,” said Watson.
RAM Petroleum and PPC Zimbabwe were the sponsors of the show.
