SIXTY years since its inception, David Livingstone High School remains steadfast in its dedication to providing quality education and fostering innovation, shaping generations of students.

Established in 1965 in Ntabazinduna, the school continues to be one of the impactful institutions in Matabeleland North Province, with a current enrolment of 614 pupils and 28 teaching staff members.
Speaking during the school’s Annual Speech and Prize Giving Day, the guest of honour, Mrs Olicah Kaira, who is the Chief Director for Primary, Secondary and Non-Formal Education in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, said David Livingstone High School’s success story is a testament to the transformative power of education in the communities and the country as a whole.

She said the school has been carrying the national aspirations for education with detailed discipline and deserves a place in the list of schools that have helped transform many communities.
“The school resonates well with our National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1). The strategy places education at the heart of socio-economic transformation, recognising that a well-educated and skilled population is the driving force behind industrialisation, modernisation and inclusive growth,” said Mrs Kaira.

She urged learners to embrace Heritage-Based Curriculum (HBC) as it seeks to ensure that pupils not only acquire academic knowledge but also develop practical skills, values and attitudes that enable them to contribute meaningfully to their communities and the nation at large.

“The Heritage-Based Curriculum, which is championed by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, brings relevance to the education system. It draws from our history, our culture and our environment, ensuring that what we teach is rooted in our own realities while also preparing pupils for global engagement,” she added.
Mrs Kaira also commended the school for its commitment to a broad and balanced curriculum.
“The business units at the school that expose our children to entrepreneurship skills and development is the current way of doing education business. These projects under the business unit development, not only supplement the school’s resources but also equip pupils with practical business and life skills,” said Mrs Kaira

David Livingstone High School headmaster Mr Vusumuzi Nkiwane said the prize-giving day ceremony was a defining moment in the students’ academic pursuit.
“Every lesson you absorb, every equation you solve and every text you critically analyse is a chisel in your hand, shaping the raw marble of your potential. Education is the greatest sharpener-it hones the mind, polishes the intellect and focuses ambition. Your presence here today signifies your engagement in this vital process of self-sharpening.

“We applaud your collective journey and the daily triumphs, both big and small, that define your academic pursuit. We wish you the very best in your ongoing endeavours,” he said.
