DDF rehabilitating major roads in Nkayi

The repairs which involve grading and bush cutting along the roads started early this week.
The District Development Fund (DDF) is carrying out the rehabilitation.
In an interview in Nkayi on Wednesday, the district administrator, Ms Nosizi Dube said DDF had been allocated enough fuel to repair all major roads from Nkayi Business Centre.
“We went for a meeting in Lupane and we were told that DDF had been given enough fuel to start grading Nkayi roads.
“They started on Monday and work is still going on and this involves grading, bush clearing and everything that needs to be done on the road,” said Ms Dube.
Ms Dube said the main roads that were getting attention were Fighting Road, Nkayi-Tshakalisa Road and Ingwalathi-Sando Road.
On Wednesday DDF workers were busy grading, cutting bushes and applying gravel along the Nkayi-Bulawayo Road towards Nkayi.
She commended the Government for revitalising the road network, as most places in the district were inaccessible due to the poor state of roads.
Ms Dube said the repairs would allow her office to attend to some Government programmes that had not been attended to for a long time.
“We are so happy that our roads are getting attention. Fighting Road has been graded and this is the most critical road for the province because it is shorter than Tshakalisa Road when we are going to the provincial capital.
“This would obviously make movement around the district and province easy.
“We want to thank the Government for funding the project. Poor road network had stopped all programmes in the district but now we know we can go to meetings.
“We are not yet sure about Nkayi-Bulawayo Road but hope it would get funding soon. The major problem as you might know is that detour when approaching Bulawayo,” she said.
