ZIMBABWE’S leading golfer Brendon de Jonge will be hoping to do well at The Waste management Phoenix Open at the TPC Scottsdale in Arizona tomorrow. De Jonge, who missed the cut in last week’s Sony Open in Hawaii after two rounds of 75 and 65, will be hoping for a better show.
The Sony Open had a prize fund of US$5 600 000 and was the second US PGA Tour event this year after last week’s 2015 Hyundai Tournament of Champions.
De Jonge, who came very close to capturing a maiden PGA Tour title towards the end of last year, will be in the field of a tourney that carries US$6,3 million in purse money and a winning share of US$1,1 million.
De Jonge, who sits a respectable 17th on the FedEx Cup standings, was close to winning his first PGA Tour title in October last year, coming just short on the second play-off hole to American Robert Streb at the McGladrey Classic.
The Zimbabwean, now ranked 87th in the world, will tee off alongside Brian Davies and Ben Crane in a field that has over 160 players.
De Jonge has a good history in the tournament and finished sixth in 2013.
