De Souza hails Prince Edward

The Tigers finished second after losing 7-12 to a tenacious Mbare Academy in the schools Cup final and De Souza said his team did well to go that far in the tourney.

“I am happy with the boys, we had new young players but their skill with the ball was awesome it was our first big competition for the season and we feel they did well,” said De Souza.

“We are glad that the tournament went well as we were using it as part of the development programme for the young blood.
“We are going to take part in the Peterhouse Sevens rugby tournament, Eaglesvale Sevens and the Zimbabwe trials Craven Week Under-18 ahead of us so we need to play as many games as we can.

“We had good players Shepard Mhembere, Marcus Mapfirakupa, Ernest Mudzegerere, Luke Jongwe, Tristan Moses, Godknows Ndoro and Lucky Mavara who were outstanding.”

In their pool Prince Edward beat Mabvuku 17-5 before losing 10-15 to Churchill. In their third match Prince Edward beat Hellenic 12-2 before overpowering Eaglesvale 24-10.

Just when Prince Edward felt they were getting it right, they suffered a 7-12 defeat at the hands of Mbare Academy, who are, arguably, the best junior development team in the country.
