A QUIET Bulawayo suburb turned into a murder scene in the early hours of Monday after the body of Gift Moyo (29) was found lying in a pool of blood with two stab wounds, one to the chest and another to the back.
The gruesome discovery was made by a company driver from a local lounge, who was dropping off workers just after 1:30AM on Evesham Road, Southwold.
“He was taking staff home when one worker asked to be dropped along Stratford Road,” said Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Nomalanga Msebele. “The driver turned into the road and after driving about seven metres, saw what looked like a person lying motionless on the ground.”
Out of concern, the driver stopped the vehicle and approached the body, only to realise the person wasn’t breathing.
“He immediately called the police,” Insp said Msebele. “Officers attended the scene and confirmed the body was that of Gift Moyo, a male adult from Southwold. He had a deep stab wound on the lower left chest and another on the right shoulder blade.”
Police believe Gift may have been attacked and left to die in the middle of the road. The motive is still unclear.
“We are appealing to anyone who may have information that could lead to the arrest of the suspect to urgently contact the nearest police station,” urged Msebele.
Police investigations are underway. Anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious around the time of the murder is urged to speak up.
