A 31-YEAR-OLD Bulawayo man allegedly repeatedly punched a fellow imbiber and bludgeoned him with an iron bar, resulting in his death.
Themba Moyo died after falling and hitting his head, following a frenzied attack by Clyde Gakava of Lobengula West, at Esiqongweni Beer Garden.
Gakava answered to a culpable homicide charge before Western Commonage magistrate Pasipanodya Maturure.
Gakava, who is out on bail, was remanded to June 19 for continuation of trial.
Prosecutor Melissa Dube told the court that the incident occurred on April 9, 2026, at around 7.30am.
The court heard that Gakava assaulted Moyo by punching him several times in the face before striking him on the head with an iron bar.
According to the prosecution, Moyo fell to the ground during the assault and hit the back of his head on the floor.
Despite the injuries, Moyo travelled to Esigodini where he was employed and continued with his activities.
However, his condition deteriorated in the days that followed.
He died on April 22, 2026, allegedly as a result of injuries sustained during the assault.
Moyo passed away at Bheki Mine in Esikhoveni, Umzingwane.
The State alleges that the assault led to the fatal injuries that claimed Moyo’s life nearly two weeks after the altercation.
