DEATH OVER PLATE OF ISITSHWALA! Tout gets 20 years over US$20 madness

A TOUT went haywire and beat his friend to death after he found him sharing a plate of Isitshwala with another tout.
The Mufakose tout demanded that his friend should repay him for Isitshwala that he ate at his home in the morning.

The improbable story also includes a high speed vehicle chase and mafia tactic assault.
Byson Mwachande (31) demanded US$20 as repayment from Michael Salimon.
In a fit of anger he cracked Salimon’s skull with a rock, killing him instantly.

Mwachande was this week slapped with 20 years behind bars by the High Court sitting in Harare for the murder of fellow Salimon at Lyton Flyover.
According to the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) the drama started on 13 February 2025 when Mwachande found Salimon sharing a plate of Isitshwala with another colleague.

“The offender demanded ‘repayment’ for the Isitshwala the now deceased had eaten at his home earlier that morning,” said the prosecuting authority in a statement.

Things went from kitchen quarrel to street war when Mwachande decided that the Isitshwala must be paid for with hard cash.
“The disagreement escalated when the offender insisted on taking the now deceased’s US$20 share of the day’s earnings as compensation.”
When the colleague refused to hand over the money, the two men fled towards Workington thinking they had escaped the sadza tax collector.
However, Mwachande was not done.

“He pursued the two in a pickup truck and caught up with them. He jumped from the moving vehicle and struck the now deceased once on the forehead with a 470 gram stone.”
Salimon collapsed on the tar and died instantly.

“A post mortem confirmed that death was caused by a severe head injury, including a skull fracture and subdural haemorrhage.”
“The offender fled the scene but later surrendered himself to the police on 15 February 2025,” said the NPAZ.
