DEBUTANTS, Old Johanians proved their mettle in the first-round final match last Saturday after defeating visiting Mutare Sports Club 37-10.
MSC coach, Mackenzie Munetsi, said the boys gave away the match by failing to maximise points.
“We need to start maximising points. We failed to kick through all our try conversions and those were points lost.
“We are also failing to keep momentum. We put the first points on the board, but easily gave them tries which cost us dearly,” said Munetsi.
After that defeat, Mutare Sports Club end the first-round of the Harare top-flight league on position five, behind Harare Sports Club, Old Georgians, Old Hararians and Old Johanians respectively. Police Defenders and Southern City sit at the bottom in that order.
Tomorrow (Saturday), the second-round of the Harare top-flight league gets underway with the Mutare Shumbas taking on the tough OGS side in Harare.
The match kicks off at Old Hararians at 14.30pm
HSC will have a bye this weekend.
In other league matches in Harare, Police Defenders will take on Southern City (12.30pm), while the hosts, OH date OJS in the potential thriller.
Meanwhile, Harare league coordinator, Donald Mangenje, said he was impressed by the commitment by all the teams in the first round.
