Decomposed body found near Matopo mine

Police in Matopo, Matabeleland South Province, are investigating a suspected murder case after the decomposing body of a male adult was discovered in a bushy area near Yakutsi Marketing Mine.

The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) confirmed the incident, which occurred on 14 July 2025, and said the identity of the deceased is yet to be established.

In a statement posted on their official social media platforms, police said the body was found in an advanced state of decomposition, with disturbing signs of injury.

“The body had bruises on the limbs, was missing the right-hand thumb and forefinger, and had no skin on the head,” reads the police statement.

The victim was wearing a blue work suit jacket, black shorts, and blue trousers when he was found.

Police have since launched investigations and are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.

“Anyone with information that may assist in identifying the deceased or establishing the circumstances surrounding the death is urged to report at the nearest police station,” said the police.
